CBT has been shown to be effective for patients of all ages (including children), educational levels and cultural backgrounds.
While almost anyone can benefit from CBT, research has demonstrated that it is particularly effective for patients who:
- are able or willing to reflect on their own thoughts and feelings
- are able or willing to take responsibility for personal change and to work hard to achieve their goals
- are able or willing to establish an open, collaborative relationship with their therapist
- are able or willing to work in a focused, goal-directed manner
