FAQs

Question: Do I need a doctor’s referral?

Answer: The Centre does not require a doctor’s referral.  However, some extended health carriers do require a physician’s referral before providing reimbursement of fees.

Question: Which psychologist will I see?

Answer: Following a brief telephone intake, patients are generally assigned to one of the Centre’s psychologists for assessment and treatment.  Assignments are typically based on therapist availability and patient characteristics (e.g., age, presenting problems, etc.).  Every effort is made to ensure the best possible psychologist-patient match.

Question: What should I expect at my first appointment?

Answer: The initial session is generally devoted to assessment and treatment planning.  This is generally done through a detailed interview and a brief battery of psychological tests.

Question: How long will therapy last?

Answer: CBT is a time-limited treatment approach.  The number of sessions required for optimal treatment will vary depending on the nature, severity and complexity of presenting symptoms.  Some patients experience substantial gains very rapidly (e.g., 4-6 sessions) while others require significantly longer (20 or more sessions) to achieve their treatment goals.  Therapists will discuss with patients the recommended number of sessions prior to commencing treatment.
