First Responders & Military

“Our mission is to help people improve and maintain their mental health through research-supported methods of psychological assessment and treatment. We value inclusivity and respect the unique and diverse nature of individuals.”

We have a long history of working with first responders (e.g., police officers, firefighters, paramedics, dispatchers, correctional officers) and military.

Individuals in these types of roles are often subject to traumatic experiences and our team of psychologists have considerable experience in providing research-supported treatments for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

First responders may also be experiencing psychological difficulties besides trauma and our team is here to help. We regularly work with veterans at our clinic through Veterans Affairs Canada.

Your first appointment consists of an assessment which enables us to clarify any diagnoses, prepare a case formulation, and determine if Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is recommended for you. In therapy you will learn how to identify and reframe inaccurate and unhelpful thoughts and beliefs that contribute to emotional difficulties and problematic behaviours (e.g., withdrawing from loved ones, overuse of alcohol or drugs, etc.).

For trauma-related issues, Prolonged Exposure (PE) is a treatment of choice which involves gradually facing feared thoughts, stimuli, and situations associated with the trauma until we become more desensitized to these triggers and we learn that we are able to cope in the face of such triggers.
