History

“Our mission is to help people improve and maintain their mental health through research-supported methods of psychological assessment and treatment. We value inclusivity and respect the unique and diverse nature of individuals.”

Oakville Centre for Cognitive Therapy (OCCT) was founded by Dr. Stephen Swallow in 1994. Dr. Swallow began renting a small suite in the Trafalgar Professional Centre at 1235 Trafalgar Road.

In the following years Dr. Swallow established himself within Oakville and surrounding areas. In 2005 Dr. Swallow moved OCCT into a four-office suite within the same building. Under Dr. Swallow’s leadership, OCCT grew steadily and in 2013, he moved the practice into a much larger 8-office suite. OCCT continued to grow resulting in another move in 2017 to our current 13-office suite within Trafalgar Professional Centre. Our office is conveniently located just north of the QEW near the Trafalgar exit. This location has proved to be convenient for clients in a wide range of areas beyond Oakville including Toronto, Etobicoke, Mississauga, Milton, Burlington, Georgetown, Hamilton, and other surrounding areas.

In February of 2020, Dr. Robert Ferguson and Dr. Justin Mattina became the new owners of OCCT with Dr. Swallow staying on as an advisor and to continue providing leading-edge psychological treatment services to members of the community. Prior to taking over leadership of OCCT, Dr. Ferguson and Dr. Mattina have a combined total of over 20 years working at the clinic alongside Dr. Swallow and our team of outstanding psychologists.

At present, OCCT is home to a team of PhD-level autonomous psychologists, psychologists in their supervised practice year, and supervised clinical therapists – who are senior PhD students nearing completion of their doctoral degrees.
